Ethnozoology Study of Balinese Culture, Leads Magna Anuraga Putra Duarsa to Win a Doctorate in Animal Science, Faculty of Animal Husbandry Unud

The Doctoral Study Program (S3) in Animal Science, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University, has once again given birth to the 63rd Doctor in the field of Animal Science, Magna Anuraga Putra Duarsa, a Lecturer at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University, through an open doctoral promotion examination led by the Chair of the Session, Koprodi Doctoral Study Program ( S3) Animal Science Prof. Dr. Ir. Ni Nyoman Suryani, M.Sc., (Friday, 31 May 2024). 

The Promoter Team consists of Prof. Dr. Ir. I Wayan Suarna, M.S., Prof. Dr. Ir. I Gede Mahardika, MS., and Dr. Drs. I Nyoman Wardi, M.Si. Presenting 6 supporting lecturers and 4 invited academic lecturers. The dissertation that was successfully defended was entitled "Ethnozoological Study of Balinese Culture in Indigenous Livestock Conservation". From the results of the dissertation research, the novelty was obtained: “1. Ethnozoological relationships can be an important indicator in conservation efforts for indigenous livestock. Indigenous livestock that have little or no ethnozoological relationship (beliefs, religious rituals, hobbies/leisure, economics and culture) will tend to have a greater potential for extinction than livestock with ethnozoological relationships. "The more diverse the patterns of ethnozoological relationships that exist, the more protected the livestock will be from the threat of extinction," explained M.A.P Duarsa. The aim of the research carried out is to analyze elements of Balinese culture that specifically emphasize the connection with indigenous livestock conservation efforts in Bali; analyze these cultural elements that can play a role in indigenous livestock conservation efforts in Bali; found a shift in values ??across generations in Balinese culture regarding the relationship between humans and indigenous livestock.
